How to survive the "Mom Shuttle" without the 3 PM crash

The transition from the hockey rink to the summer camp logistics is officially underway. If you’re a professional woman or a busy mom, you know the "shuttle" is a marathon of focus.

But have you ever wondered why you’re reaching for a second coffee or a sugary snack by mid-afternoon?

In her book Good Energy, Dr. Casey Means explains that this "crash" is often a sign of cellular energy failure. We are fueling with "kindling" (sugar and processed carbs) that burns hot and fast, leaving us depleted. To survive the shuttle, we need to burn "logs"—stable, long-burning fats and proteins.

One way I track this at Hahn Health is by looking at the Triglyceride to HDL ratio. It’s one of the best markers for insulin resistance. If that ratio is high, your body is struggling to access its own fat stores for energy, leaving you stranded in that 3 PM fog.

You don't need more caffeine; you need metabolic flexibility.

I’m Vanessa, and this is Wellness with an NP. Fuel your foundation.
