What’s Actually in My Fridge? (And Why Your Fat Cells Are Like a Suitcase)

Feb 08, 2026

This week, I got vulnerable and showed you what my fridge actually looks like.

Spoiler alert: It’s not 100% "Instagram Perfect Carnivore." Yes, I eat an animal-based diet (beef, eggs, butter), but I also live in a house with a husband and two hockey-playing kids. We have pickles. We have yogurt. We have fruit.

The goal isn't perfection; the goal is Real Food.

The "Aha!" Moment: The Suitcase Analogy The biggest response I got this week was about Insulin Resistance. I want you to imagine your fat cells are like a suitcase. When you are healthy, the suitcase has room. You can pack energy in and take it out. But when you have Insulin Resistance, that suitcase is stuffed. You are sitting on it, trying to zip it, but nothing fits. So where does the extra energy (sugar) go? It spills out into your bloodstream.

We don't need a bigger suitcase (more medication). We need to unpack the bag (lower the insulin).

What We Learned This Week:

  • The Oil Check: We talked about the dangers of Industrial Seed Oils (Canola, Soybean, Corn) and inflammation. But let's be real—they are everywhere. I do my best to avoid them, especially at home where I have control. But real life happens. If I'm at a restaurant, I'm not going to stress over the mayo. We take it one day at a time, doing our best to choose better fuel when we can.

  • Moderation vs. Abstinence: For some of us, "just one bite" of sugar triggers a binge. It is okay to know yourself. If you are an Abstainer, "zero" is actually easier than "some."

  • The "Case of the Mondays": If your staff is dragging on Monday, check the breakroom. Are you drugging them with sugar?

Your Challenge: Go to your pantry. Turn over the salad dressing and the crackers. Just start reading the labels. Awareness is the first step. If you can swap that Canola oil dressing for an Olive Oil one, you’ve made a huge win for your mitochondria.
